Your First Appointment
Frequently-Asked Questions
Every appointment you have with Rehab For Her will be directly with owner Shannon DeSalvo, PT.
What sets Rehab For Her apart from other pelvic physical therapists in Kansas City is the personal touch Shannon brings to every aspect of her practice. When you reach out, it’s Shannon who answers the phone, replies to your texts or emails, and guides you through each step of your care. There are no students or assistants involved in your treatment—you receive Shannon's full attention and benefit from her years of expertise.
Your physical therapist will first sit down with you and discuss your medical history and reason for your appointment.
After careful consideration of all the data collected, she will then decide if a pelvic floor exam is warranted. If at any time you do not feel comfortable, just let your therapist know, and the physical exam will stop so that you can discuss your concerns/expectations.
Many Rehab For Her clients have achieved their goals in just 3 to 5 appointment sessions!
Sessions typically last 60-70 minutes, depending on your needs. The frequency of visits will depend on your condition and progress, but many patients start with weekly sessions and gradually reduce the frequency as symptoms improve.

Wear comfortable or loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement. Pelvic floor therapy sessions could involve doing specific therapeutic exercises or stretches.
Some assessments may involve examining your pelvic floor muscles. If an internal exam is required during your visit, you may be asked to disrobe from the waist down. You will discuss any internal exam with your physical therapist in advance and should feel comfortable before proceeding.
If you have any concerns about what to wear or how to prepare for your session, don't hesitate to ask Shannon.
You’ll likely be given "homework" to reinforce what you’ve learned during your pelvic physical therapy visit that is customized to your unique circumstances.
The homework is designed to help you incorporate changes into your daily habits that will help increase the likelihood of success in treating your underlying conditions. This may include things like:
Pelvic Floor exercises (Kegels, reverse Kegels, etc.), breathing techniques, postural adjustments, bladder or bowel retraining, stretching and mobility exercises, and tips for sexual health, among many others.
